What do I know about google earth and voicethread? I know that Google earth is a program that you can look at houses and places all over the world and it is an aerial view from above. I do not know anything about voicethread and I have heard about it. Have I presented material about google earth and voicethread before? No I have never presented anything about google earth and voicethread before, because I have never heard of Voicethread and I don’t really use Google earth that much. Do I understand what I have to do? Is there anything I don’t understand about this activity? Yes, I completely understand what I have to do for this activity and there is nothing I do not understand about this activity. What skills and knowledge will I be using? I will be using all the knowledge I already know about Google Earth and how to use it, and all the knowledge I am taught by the teacher, especially for voicethread.
Identify What is the task?
What do I want to accomplish in creating this google earth project? I want to accomplish to be able to use Google earth more thoroughly and learn about this website that I have never heard of voicethread and become familiar with the website. Also I want to be able to use my knowledge for other people, maybe when there is a situation when I need to use it. How do I want to interest others in my topic? I want to make others interested in this topic by making the slide shows on voicethread bright and interesting with interesting facts about the international places, and even maybe teach something new to others with this information I have shown to them. Do I want to present an informative google earth project that can be used as a reference? Do I want to present a warning poster that alerts people to danger? Or some combination of those goals? I want to present an informative google earth project that can be used as a reference because if there is lots of good information then it would be very useful for information about around the world and the places I choose.
What do I need in order to do this? I will need a combination of good information and interesting facts so that it is not boring for people and it will be useful for people to use, so just not any random fact that is completely useless to everyone. What materials do I have? I have a laptop and Google earth program and Voicethread to use. What resources do I need? The recourses that I will need are information on the places that I am doing, pictures and books maybe on the places so that I can get interesting facts on them. Should I do more research on google earth and voicethread? Yes, I need to do lots more research on Google and especially voicethread because voicethread is completely new to me, but it doesn’t look to hard to work, I will need to do more research on this so I can get the best out of the website.
Who will be looking at this work? People in my year or people that are interested in the places that I have chosen for the google earth and voicethread. How can I appeal to other students? I can make this an appeal to other students by making it interesting and bright with interesting facts on all the places and not boring ones, which will make people really bored and will just give up on watching the slideshow. Are there examples of google earth and voicethread materials that I can look at? Yes there are many examples I can look at on the voicethread because it is a website and people have also made voicethread slideshows, which I could take ideas from and use. What are the obstacles? The obstacles are the limit of time to do this project also my knowledge of voicethread and putting the voicethread slideshows onto google earth which may not work; my laptop could break down at anytime which could put me behind. What problems may happen? That my laptop may breakdown, I might run out time or the google earth might go really weird and not work for some reason. Can I draw a diagram that will help me to visualise my work? Draw some rough ideas for posters....
Generate How many ideas can I think of?
What aspects of Google earth and voicethread interest me? The aspects of Google earth and voicethread that interest me is one Google earth is absolutely amazing, because you can see like everywhere in the world from an bird’s eye view and if you wanted to see some desert or something you could type in a deserts name and then you could see it, and I personally think that is amazing. Voicethread is interests me because there are lots of other people using it and you can see their slideshows that they have made. What would I want to see on a Google earth project? I would like to see good pictures on their slideshow and not boring information that no one wants to know about, also I would want it to be interesting because I would just get really bored with black and white and plain text with no ‘life’ in the slideshow. Consider the advantages and disadvantages of each idea. The advantages of the ideas I have chosen are that I can get pictures myself because I have been to most of the places that I have chosen, the disadvantages of each idea is that all off the pictures are on a Mac computer and they are a really big file so sometimes I can’t get them on a memory stick. Are there any other subjects to consider? No I do not think that there are any other subjects to consider because I am fully satisfied with what places I have chosen. What resources (books, websites, etc.) have I been provided with? I have been provided with the internet which I can use to use the website Wiki and I can use Google Images for photos. What do other people think about this? My partner thinks my international places are good and interesting and I have asked someone else and they said that it was ‘an awesome’ idea. Do others think I have a good idea? Yes, my partner thinks that it’s a good idea all the places that I have chosen because they are not really popular places, so you can learn something new.
Decide Which is the best idea?
Explain your reasons for choosing these. What are the arguments for and against each idea? The reason I chose the international places that I have chosen (Barcelona, Venice, Hurricane Katrina, London) is because I have been to all these places besides Katrina – so I have lots of pictures from those places. I chose Hurricane Katrina because it was such a tragic disaster. Which idea is the best one for completing the task? All of my ideas a fine for completing the task given, there is no best one for completing the task. Which idea is best for accomplishing my goal? All of them again because none of them are the best, they all work well for me. What is my plan? What are the steps to follow? My plan is to get all the pictures for the places first then I will get all the information and put it all together on word. I will then go to voicethread and make a slideshow for all of them and put as much information as possible into all of them, after that I will put them onto Google earth and save them all onto a memory stick so they don’t get lost, after I will help my partner if she is having any problems with her part on the project. How will I keep track of my progress? I will keep track of my progress by having a check list on my laptop on the sidebar notes. Possible list of steps: ·Research and gather material about my subject. ·Revise material and compose text for poster. ·Create graphics. ·Take pictures. Edit pictures. ·Assemble text and images into poster. ·Review poster and modify as needed.

Yes, I think I did add the right things to make the Google Earth project appeal to other students because I am a student, and I think I have a similar taste to other students.
Learn from experience What have I learned?
If I had to start this activity all over again, how would I improve my performance? I would definitely be more organised with my work. I think I would add more pictures because I have about 3-4 pictures on the slides and I think I could have got more if I was more organised. I would also have improved them by putting videos in all of the slides instead of just couple. Would I change my work habits? Yes, because this project I was not as organized as the first, I would change my work habits by being more organised. Would I use a different subject or different design? Would I only make small changes? I would only make small changes to the project because overall I am happy with the result I have got out of doing this project. How have I improved since that last time I worked on a similar task? Definitely because I have never done a similar task like this, so this has made the knowledge bigger about this area of work. Have I learned anything about my subject or about appealing to others or about presenting information? Yes, I have learnt a lot about all of them especially on the subject because I found out some new and interesting facts about the countries I chose. Can I use that elsewhere? Yes, I can use this knowledge elsewhere. I can use it in everyday life and it might come in handy if I do another project. How has my thinking changed as a result of this work? My thinking has changed the result of my work because if I wasn’t motivated then I would not be able to finish this. What skills have I learned and developed? The skills I have learnt and developed are how to use voicethread because I have never used it before, and it wasn’t hard to use but I now know how to use it. I definitely have developed how to emend things, I did know what it was before, but I didn’t know how to do it. Also my knowledge on how to use Google Earth. What problems did I have to solve? Problems I had to solve were when the Google Earth would not save for some reason. Also a lot of the pictures I wanted to put onto Voicethread were way to big even if I put it on a memory stick it wouldn’t go onto there. Were there obstacles in developing ideas, researching material, or presenting the material? How were they overcome? I overcome them by fiddling around and seeing if something would happen, and in the end it worked so that was quite a good tactic. How did I use the strengths of others to help me? Yes, sometimes I did use my partner to help, but I prefer to works things out for myself and find everything myself. So I kind of used the strengths of others.
